Phone Call from Hong Kong

Thursday night we got a phone call from Steve. He sounds good and wants you all to know what is going on.

He is patiently, but anxiously, awaiting the surgery. Steve wants to get going on the treatment plan, surgery and then chemo and radiation. The doctors will know more about what the treatment plan will be once they remove the tumor, but are optimistic that there is indeed a course of action for treatment. Steve, Annie, Jim and Winnie were all meeting with the surgeon that afternoon. He will have some blood work done in the next day or so to confirm that the majority of the aspirin is out of his body. If all looks good he will go into the hospital Tuesday with the surgery planned for Wednesday.

Sounded like they were all having a great lunch overlooking the ocean. Annie's sister was there as well and from the sounds of things they were all having a good time. Steve sounded very upbeat and I think feels surrounded by love and positive energy.

He wanted me to let you all know that he truly appreciates all the support he has been receiving. Keep it coming!

Kathy

Thank you Kathy for keeping this blog up-to-date. I wish there was more that I could do! Prayer is a powerful force. Sue, I and our congregation are determined to make a difference through prayer!

We saw the Dr. Friday aft. (Thursday in US) He was able to go through his thoughts on the surgery and explained about the tumors and his plan. We all are in agreement that there is no other choice than surgery and safety is the number one concern. Removal and then radiation and chemo. A long haul for Steve and he is prepared to do whatever is needed.

Sunday (Sat Denver time) many of his HK friends will be at the condo in the afternoon to share time with him before he goes into the hospital Tuesday afternoon (Mon Denver time) Surgery will be Wednesday (Tuesday Denver time) and could take 6-8 hours.

It has been a real gift to be able to visit with Steve and Annie and her sister these few days.

So once again your prayers are needed and important to his recovery.

Steve,
I'll keep you in my prayers. It is encouraging to read the blog entries knowing that you are being strong and that you are in God's hands. Please know that though we are miles apart, and years removed, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Blessings.

This is Monday in HK. Yesterday many of Steve's friends came to wish him well with a nice potluck. The condo was full of people telling stories and giving their encouragement. There were children running around and three maids trying to cook - clean and watch children. I could use one of those maids.

Today it is rainy and gloomy. We are going to dinner tonight at a nice restaurant and then Tuesday aft he will be admitted for his hospital journey. We are all anxious to get that part done and go on to whatever is next. A plan will be developed after they know what the protocol to use.

So continue your prayers and sending thougts our way. They all help!!!

It is Monday, 25 May in Hong Kong. We had a nice weekend visit with Jim and Winnie and with Kudy from Thailand. It all seems a bit surreal. The immediate headaches are over (good) so we spend most of our time enjoying the HK restaurant scene and listening to the Nuggets game. We have a good plan so now just waiting for the first step. It is a long process. Luckily I am getting lots of support so all is good. This has been a big help.

Most of our HK friends stopped by yesterday to give their support and see Annie, Jim and Winnie. Again, a network of friends is something that helps beyond imagination.

Sharon Leddel stopped by yesterday with Nuggets souvenirs. I just hope the surgeon turns out to be a Lakers fan.

We also had a nice chat with my brother David and his family on Skype. Great to see David.

Surgery is scheduled at 10:00 am on Wednesday. The doctor suggested that I am ay be up and walking by Thursday! From there we start chemo and other treatments but getting to that step is my objective at this point.

Check the blog this weekend for an update on the surgery.

Thanks for everyone's kind words, prayers and positive stories. They help immensely.

Steve checked into the hospital this afternoon. Learned surgery is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. There is no waiting room so nurses have advised that we go back to the condo and wait since surgery will be 6-8 hours long. He is in good spirits - Annie is too and we are all anxious to get this over with and get on with rehab. Just a reminder that if you want to send flowers, please wait until later i the week or next week. The room was overflowing this afteroon with beautiful flowers and because he will be in ICU we were asked to take themm home. The taxi was full!

Continue praying for successful surgery and also for his continued rehabilitation.
